Some error messages go on and on, others are techno-babble. In trying to run WS_FTP Pro today I discovered for myself that Ipswitch have a straight to the point, albeit a little cryptic, message. When I fired up WS FTP Pro all I got was “Never”. This was after installing a windows patch that installed IE7 on the server. Clicking on OK bought up another box saying “Never” and another click OK closed the graphical interface but left it running in task manager. Surprisingly scheduled tasks still seemed to work.
A quick search on the Internet found Julie Lerman’s Blog which showed the same message and fortunately highlighted a simple solution.
Simply rename psapi.dll to psapi.dll.old in the Program Files/Ipswitch/WS_Ftp Professional folder.
On closer investigation it looks like the PSAPI.DLL in the FTP folder is version 4 whereas after installing IE7 there is a version 5 version in the window system32 folder. PSAPI is described as a Process Status Helper and more information can be obtained from the My Digital Life Blog in this post: Problems Arising from PSAPI.DLL Dynamic Link Library File.
