Moving along the virtualisation

October 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

Summary

The virtualisation project (10 servers down to 4) is now well underway with a number of servers already decommissioned including:

  • The AD Master/Old Exchange 2000/MailArchiver Server
  • The Print Server
  • An old Terminal Services Server

What is left?

The web server has largely been moved across to a virtual server now - in fact all the existing web sites have now been relocated so theoretically that should be that but life’s not always like that is it?

I also need to move:

  • the FTP software and associated scripts for EDI purposes
  • a SQL instance with old MailArchiver databases upon it which need migrating off
  • an EDI AS2 package upon it that at some point needs reviewing
  • HP Jetadmin
  • WIFI Admin software

Work Ahead

In the short term I am going to remove Jetadmin and the Wi-Fi  Software, then try and migrate all the SQL databases onto the new SQL server - should be easy but I bet it isn’t!

I then plan to move the ftp software and scripts off the web server and get that going on a new image

I’ve decided to take the step of moving all the builds up to R2 level - this won’t be easy especially Storage Server on the DL380 which at this point in time I’m not even sure it supports it - but we like a challenge don’t we?
