Video: Fully Charged - Farming Wind
In this ten minute episode of internet based show “Fully Charged” Robert Llewellyn takes a look at a wind turbine and tries to understand how much electricity it produces, how much it costs, and just how clean it is.
Whichever way you look at it wind turbines are really quite noticeable, being big and somewhat noisy, so it is interesting to see one close up and hear from someone who actually has one installed on their farm.
The farm spends around £5-6,000 on electricity alone so the wind turbine is useful in that it produces around 30,000 kW hours which, as the farmer tells us, brings in revenye of around £15,000 per year. The initial cost of the wind turbine was around £60,000 so the payback period is pretty short with the only downside seeming to be the concerns of some of the neighbours which the farmer tells us were split 50/50.
