Manually Updating DSM Software

synology 6 Get More From Your Disks With A NAS Part 2As the DiskStation Manager software is shipped with version 3.0 we want to replace it with the latest version which is 3.2 and it would be a good time to perform this upgrade before we go any further. To do this we need to head into the Control Panel which can be found by heading to the toolbar and clicking on the pull down arrow.

synology 7 Get More From Your Disks With A NAS Part 2DSM Update can be found listed in the “System” section of options.

Upon launch the DSM Update displays the system model name (DS211j in our case) and the current DSM version (DSM 3.0-1354) and date (2010/10/23).

At this point it is important to remember that it is not possible to downgrade a version of the DSM so ensure you really want to upgrade before you go ahead.

Fortunately, from version 3.2 of the DSM things are made a little easier as the DiskStation Manager can automatically check for the latest version and automatically download updates on a regular basis although you can still manually update the DSM should you require.

Once the updates are complete the unit will reboot and you should be welcomed with the new version logon screen – in this case DSM 3.2.
