Podcasting, How Two Students Are Getting It Right

Whether you “get” the comedy or not contained within Tim and Simon’s Brain Spill they are clearly doing something right and utilising key aspects of social media to build their brand and following – there are lessons to be learned from their approach which can be summarised as follows:

  • Clearly define the brand
  • Produce dynamic content, which matches the brand message, on a fixed regular schedule
  • Support the core content with complementary activities, such as a Blog and Facebook page
  • Don’t limit your audience. Tim and Simon’s podcast isn’t just available on iTunes – you can download it directly from their website
  • Connect with new audiences – for example, Tim and Simon send personal messages to each new follower
  • Engage the existing audience – for example, Tim and Simon’s drop-in clinic asks listeners to send in their own questions
  • Regularly promote the brand and try new things, for example Tim and Simon managed to get on local radio, attracted the attention of an existing popular podcaster, and are currently campaigning to get on “The One Show” in the UK

If you haven’t yet experienced the ramblings of Tim and Simon I would highly recommend you check out Brain Spill.
