Podcasting, How Two Students Are Getting It Right
How are you using social media such as Twitter and Facebook to get the word out and how effective are you finding it?
We have both Facebook and Twitter, and have found more success through Twitter. One thing we’ve been doing is opening up a conversation with absolutely everybody who follows @timandsimon. We think it’s important to build up a relationship with our listeners, which is something you can’t do very effectively on Facebook. With Facebook we’ve found that it isn’t as easy to share and talk to people, and people have to find you; on Twitter, we can find them and start talking – it’s all you have do on Twitter. Not that you shouldn’t ‘like’ Brain Spill on Facebook, we do keep it all updated regularly!
The show is called Brain Spill but your website and twitter are Tim and Simon – does this suggest we might see different kinds of shows in the future?
Yes. Next question please.
Brain Spill was always going to be our first foray into the world of podcasting but we will do other projects along the way. We are hoping to use Brain Spill to build up our reputations so we can carry the Tim and Simon brand across to other projects (like actual paid work!).
And what about scripted comedy? You’ve talked before about a sketch show – how is that coming along?
Where the hell did you hear about this sketch show? Neither of us can remember telling anyone!
Though it is something we hope to do in the future, but scripted comedy is a very different kettle of pigs to what we do with Brain Spill. However, we are gaining experience the more we write fake adverts and the pre-recorded elements for our radio show on Calon FM (The Waffle on Calon FM).
The long term plan is to write a sketch show, but we need to get better first!
Thanks Tim and Simon!
