When performing business analysis it is possible to overlook some of the more beneficial analytical tasks such as Use Case analysis in favour of other potentially more attractive tasks. However, Use Case analysis early on in any project has major benefits largely because they are inclusive and focus on and question human behaviour and interaction. In the words of Kurt Bittner and Ian Spence in their book “Use Case Modelling” (ISBN: 0-201-70913-9) “Who Should be interested in Use Cases? The short answer to this question is ‘just about everyone’”.

Particularly in the case of software development the on-going problem of feature creep can often be kept tightly managed through the effective use of Use Case analysis (feature creep is when the focus of the development veers more towards ancillary dressing rather than base functionality).
