Quick Tip: Dealing With Missing E-Mail Body On An iPhone 3GS
Here is a quick tip for users of the Apple iPhone – the solution to which made me smile (the particular device I tried this on was the Apple iPhone 3GS).
Firstly, the problem. When selecting the Mail icon, to read incoming electronic mail, the two-line preview for electronic mails in the inbox was appearing but when tapping on any individual message the body of the message was missing. The To and Subject fields were present but the main text of the message was missing. After some puzzling and looking around the settings I found the easiest way of dealing with this problem was simply to power down the device and restart it – the mail body appeared again when the phone was restarted. I would love to be able to give a really technical solution but this has worked several times so far (the old switch it off and on again never ceases to amaze!).
It was interesting to note that each time I had been experiencing a minor problem with a downloaded application (which seemed to be stuck) and both issues freed themselves when the phone was restarted. I can only imagine this must have been some kind of memory issue which resolved itself when the device was restarted. I know this work around sounds pretty obvious but it took a good half hour to come to the idea of resetting the phone – hopefully this will save you some time.
