Integrating Facebook Places With CloudMade Maps
CloudMade, the location services company and recipients of the Crowdsourcing award at the Open100 Awards and Best Emerging Startup at the Mobile Premier Awards, have introduced new functionality to integrate CloudMade maps with Facebook Places.
If you are not familiar with Facebook Places just yet it allows you to share your location with friends and connect with friends that are nearby – from your mobile device. There are benefits to this particularly with being able to locate nearby friends.
Code examples are available on the CloudMade site which demonstrate how to add social media functionality into your map application by using the CloudMade Web Maps API.
“We’ve released this code to show developers how easy it is to get social media with location working on their web sites,” said Nick Black, Head of Products and co-founder of CloudMade. “By integrating Facebook Places with their web apps, developers can now tap into the largest social network on the planet, and bring that excitement into their apps to dramatically increase usage.”
You can see a live example on this site at Code Examples: Social Mapping Integration Sample.
I will be looking at the CloudMade integration service more closely over the next few months so check back and see what else it can do.
