Micro-blogging, as demonstrated by Twitter, opens up a new world of immediacy and information sharing leading to all sorts of new broadcasting opportunities. One of these areas of opportunity is live sports updates which is where new micro-blogging service, Fantator, is aiming it’s service squarely at.

As we can’t always be at the game, or even hear the latest results, Fantator will allow friends and followers to send regular updates about games and these will appear in a personal stream, as the creators of Fantator say “With some sports matches lacking television and radio coverage which is accessible to millions of sports fans, we hope this joint effort from Fantators around the world will allow fans to stay in the loop”.

Currently in beta testing, Fantator allows users of the service to give live play by play updates (Fantates) on all manner of sports matches, from basketball to football, with the hope of establishing itself as the “Twitter of sports”. Current streams include Football, Rugby, Cricket, Motor Racing, Hocket and Basketball.
