A new update for Palm Pre has been made available to O2 customers in the UK using the over the air (OTA) update system. The firmware update is also being pushed to other customers in the US, and Europe.

The new update takes webOS to version 1.4.0 at a size of around 38MB. As the update tells us “This update includes new features like video capture, edit and share to help you stay more connected in more ways. You also get enhancements that make your phone easier to use, plus improvements to performance and battery life.”

The battery life improvements are welcomed, so too the other features including:

• The ability to record, edit and share video (YouTube, Facebook, Email, MMS)
• A new notification light indicating events (new messages, calendar, etc)
• Faster application load
• Exchange Server contacts now available in universal search
• Enhancements to calendar view
