A handy utility to have installed is SoundOff. What SoundOff does is pretty simple yet highly effective. If you listen to music, radio, or audio books whilst using your computer you might find the built-in windows sounds distracting. One option would be to mute all sound (not very desirable), or head off into Control Panel, and configure “No Sounds” from the sound tab of the Sounds and Audio Devices panel.

Disabling Windows Sounds

SoundOff helps you become productive by providing another option. As the program description explains “The program lets you quickly and easily turn off Windows sounds with the right-click of a mouse button.” and once installed sits in your taskbar. Clicking the icon allows you to switch off (or on) windows sounds, quickly change the sound scheme, configure to launch the application on start-up, or configure a few options.

SoundOff is available from SD Software who describe their goal as “to be simply useful and simply free” – and SoundOff stands up to the job well.

Visit the SD Software homepage for more information and to download the free SoundOff application.
