What if you didn’t need to type a keyword in to perform a search? Google Goggles thinks it may have the answer with its visual search application. Google Goggles is available as an Android application, in the Market, that allows a search to be performed by simply taking a picture of something.

It is early days for the technology so it isn’t perfect yet (for example it helps to fill as much of the screen as possible when focusing on an object), but it is a step in the right direction – so don’t expect it to identify your pet cat just yet. Using GPS and a built-in compass you don’t even need to take a picture to identify a known building, simply point your device at it and it will try and identify it – you can then drill down into more information.

To get Google Goggles you will need an Android device, with firmware version 1.6 or later, a camera, and at least a QVGA display. Play the video below to learn more about Google Goggles.

Visit the Google Goggles homepage.
