Spiceworks, the free network management software, just keeps getting better and better. Now well into its fourth major revision, with 4.5 in beta testing, Spiceworks is proving itself to be incredibly handy for those of us working in IT. A tool that provides useful, at a glance (and detailed), information in a common framework with a thriving supporting community of tech professionals means that every release of Spiceworks so far has been one to watch out for.
So what can we expect in 4.5? As well has speed enhancements over previous versions (Apache web server makes its entrance), the helpdesk functionality is getting more focus in the latest version and PC Power consumption is also making an entrance as Green IT is, or should be, on everyone’s IT agenda. One thing I am looking forward to is the enhanced support complex networks, if you have a connected and highly sub-netted network infrastructure it should be easier mapping the network.
If you haven’t experienced Spiceworks yet, you should take a look at it, a sneak peek video is included at the end of this post. Remember, Spiceworks is free, to learn more about how such a great piece of software could be free read this article from Spiceworks: It’s Free. Really. Here’s How We Do IT.
