Updating the HTC Hero

The HTC Sync Tool for the HTC Hero (T-Mobile G2 Touch) is currently up to version 2.0.4 – the version that shipped with my T-Mobile G2 Touch phone is 2.0.2 (it is available on the memory card together with the Getting Started Guide and the User Manual.

The October 2009 Rom Upgrade for the G2 Touch is available from the T-Mobile website which is version 2.73.110.26 – this is a huge step for me as my build is reported as 1.76.110.6 – even more so as I have a branded phone, however it offers a small relief that the upgrade is described on the T-Mobile website itself.

To upgrade the phone I synced the phone then downloaded the RUU (Rom Update Utility) as advised, set it running, and fingers crossed, the install seemed to go smoothly. The update report completed and the familiar T-Mobile branding reappeared on the phone – though it took quite a while to load up leading to much staring at the device rather hopefully curiously. However, all went well and the device is working well.

Remembering the applications I had installed, however, was another matter.

You can get the current version, a 38MB download, from the HTC Site.
