Some time ago I read a gripping cyber thriller called Daemon by Daniel Suarez (see Could The Daemon Really Exist?) which followed the story of detective Pete Sebeck in his quest to find and stop a dead man, Matthew Sobol, and his rogue computer Daemon.
I recently heard the good news that there is a sequel, FreedomTM, in the works – (I’m not sure whether the TM is part of the title or just a legal thing). The original story left a few plotlines and characters unexplored and certainly kept itself open for a sequel so it will be interesting to see whether, presumably, Pete Sebeck will start to use some out of the box thinking to finally deal with the Daemon once and for all.
On a side note, I read the movie version of Daemon might be slated for release some time in 2012 (last I read Paramount were working on it).
Whilst you wait there are a number of good cyber reads out there including The Blue Nowhere, Snow Crash, and Neuromancer.
UPDATE: I just found this snippet from the Verdugo Press website offering some insight into the sequel “…picks up where Daemon left off — continuing the journey of Detective Peter Sebeck and white-hat corporate hacker, Jon Ross, as they attempt to free the modern world from the grip of an AI computer virus. “
