Installing the HP Rack Cable Management Arm
This morning I have been working on installing a number of HP DL380 G4 Servers into a HP Rack, as part of the ongoing server room project. The Quick Deploy Rail System by HP makes it pretty easy to install servers into a rack in this way. If you do not have the installation instructions at hand they can be found at the HP site at: HP 3-7U Quick Deploy Rail System Installation Instructions.
Fortunately, the installation of the brackets is relatively painless but the cable management arm and running the cables around takes a little while longer (make sure you have good length cables) especially if room around the back of the cabinet is a little tight – the diagram on the installation instructions is quite small however the cable management arm simply clicks onto the back end of the slide rails through two hook and posts.
Ensure you have enough cable when installing resources into the cable management arm and make sure you use cable tie and Velcro wraps to keep the cables securely fastened into the arm otherwise they may get caught in the mechanics of the arm movement.
