Make A Difference And Click For A Change
Thursday, 26 February 2009
I discovered Clickforachange.com on Twitter and was immediately captivated by their idea of “Play free online games and support charities.” Donations to charity are supported through the use of advertisements on their website. There are a good number of games available on the website and the team have been happy to seek out specific types of games upon request. To help them in their cause I am delighted to present this guest post from Clickforachange.com to talk a little more about the service.
Clickforachange.com is an online games website that allows users to have fun playing games while supporting charities; for every game played a small amount is donated to charity. It was a “crazy” idea, which got stuck in our heads about a year ago and went live only a few days ago. Here is what makes it work.
Making it easy
We put absolutely no demands on the visitor: all games are free and registration is optional. This allows visitors to quickly get started, without any lengthy processes. After all, we are interested in their trust, not their e-mail addresses.
Motivating users
Taking a more relaxed approach to the user’s role also addresses the perception of charities as pushy and resource-intensive. Sites such as clickforachange.com are particularly ideal for young users who may not have considered helping a charity before. While we don’t ask for donations, the process of donating the proceeds from advertising can help people feel that they are making a contribution, which puts them into a positive frame of mind about their role as citizens.
One of the fundamental concepts behind clickforachange.com is the setting of feasible targets e.g. the first $100 collected through the site will go to Plan International, an international charity supporting children across the world. The user can actually monitor the progress of the project on the homepage. It has been shown that being specific in this way can motivate citizens by boosting their efficacy, i.e. the sense that their actions can lead to positive change.
Adding a human touch
Ad-sponsored sites can be very impersonal and static. We decided to put a lot of emphasis on building a good relationship with our visitors through twitter updates and open communication. This does not only help differentiate the site and develop a community of loyal users but is also a necessary step in building trust in our main premise, donating money to charities around the world.
Do give clickforachange.com a try and let us know what you think! We are open to all ideas and feedback!

Hi Jason,
just wanted to say thanks for having us here as guests!
We’ve had a very exciting (and exhausting!) first 2 weeks and our reward really is hearing about people having fun while helping a charity.
Thanks again and see you online!
