10 More Productivity Tools For Twitter
Thursday, 12 February 2009
Since posting my ten favourite Twitter productivity tools I’ve discovered some more. I have put together a Twitter Central Resource section which combines all of the posts, applications and other Twitter related material talked about so far.
The ten new productivity tools are listed here:
“a simple survey/poll twitter app”
Sometimes you might want to gain feedback or an opinion from your Twitter friends. TwTPoll is a simple survey/poll tool for Twitter that can really help collect and combine the information you need.
“…post the current URL of your Firefox browser to Twitter”
From time to time you might want to share the current web page with your Twitter friends, this often follows the format of typing in the heading and copy/pasting the URL. Twitturl is a Firefox browser plug-in which lets you tweet the current URL – saving you a little time (and spelling mistakes).
“The social software client”
When you start out Twittering you may use the Twitter website, after a while you may decide to have a look at one of the clients available. I started out with TweetDeck but recently started using Twhirl. Twhirl supports a number of services in addition to Twitter including Friendfeed and Seesmic. Requires Adobe Air.
“Real-time Link Tracking on Twitter”
Twitt(url)y tracks URL (links to web pages) people talk about on Twitter and collates the number of times they appear, placing them into an almost Digg-like ranking. You can also Tweet the ranked links easily.
“A full Twitter client with tabbed message views.”
If you use iGoogle and are fond of Google Gadgets and Twitter this application will float your boat. Most of the things you need on the dashboard you use most often.
“Get suggestions on interesting people to follow.”
Once you really get into using Twitter you may want to start building your network by following other Twitterers – but who to follow? Simply type your Twitter name into the box and suggestions of Twitterers similar to those you currently follow will be suggested.
“…a helpful tool for keeping an eye on your growing list of friends and followers”
This actually gives you a nice list of your followers and/or those your are following showing useful information you might want to use to help build your network. You can use the analysis algorithms to ascertain various follow/following ratio’s if that’s your bag otherwise you can use it to see all your friends latest tweets in one useful list.
Friend Or Follow
“Who are you following that’s not following you back? Who’s following you that you’re not following back? Find out!”
If you want to get into the nitty gritty of who you should be following it might be worth checking out who is following you – they may share your interests (or not). This handy service can give you more information into your following activities.
“It’s a free service that connects your Twitter account to your Google Calendar.”
Do you really need to leave Twitter to pop a reminder into your Google Calendar? With this handy utility you can direct message your calendar from Twitter itself. Simply add the gcal service as your friend in Twitter, register your calendar in the gcal bot and off you go.
“If you send an email … it will be posted to Twitter.com”
You need to trust your Twitter username and Password to twitter Mail who will then issue you with your own secret twittermail email address. The body of any email you send will be posted to your Twitter account. If you make a donation to the cause you will be rewarded with an enhancement to the service.

Hi Jason, thanks for these. I now have a ‘wasting time’ excuse while I go try them out
What about mobile Tweeting? Have you any thoughts or suggestions? I want to try Twitterberry but it doesn’t want to play with me at the moment.
Good point Sharon, I feel a new post coming on. I hadn’t heard of Twitberry – is that a Blackberry app? I can’t seem to find a URL for it.
