For a number of reasons we use the built-in ntbackup program to back up our Exchange 2007 mail stores. Things have been running well until recently when the backups have been failing with the stark warning:
The ‘Microsoft Information Store’ returned ‘Some log or patch files are missing.’ from a call to ‘HrESEBackupOpenFile()’ additional data
‘\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\E000001E91A.log’The ‘Microsoft Information Store’ returned ‘Functions
called in an invalid sequence.’ from a call to ‘HrESEBackupClose()’ additional data ‘-’
The operation was ended. The operation did not successfully complete.
Running the full backup fails, so we tried utilising the eseutil /d and eseutil /p options but the problem remains.
Update: Recently found circular logging had been enabled. Switched this option off and the backups are working ok again – doesn’t necessarily resolve the problem but at least it gets the backup working again.
