What tech gift are you going to get your loved one on Valentine’s Day? It is a tricky proposition, but here are some ideas that may just get you out of hot water.
I have used images from Amazon, you can click on the images to see if they have any in stock – or use your preferred supplier.
iPod Nano
Who doesn’t love music – right? And pictures, and movies too (on its 2” diagonal screen)? You could even think about getting it personalised with a dedicated engraving. Apparently it will hold up to 2,000 songs or 7,000 photos, or 8 hours of video if you prefer.
Samsung NC10 Netbook
Update Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace on the move, without lugging a huge laptop around. Be the envy of your friends as they wonder how you could possibly use a computer that small. It has XP Home so should be familiar to anyone using Windows.
Nintendo DS Lite
Something to entertain … until the DS-i appears. Dual screen, touch screen and microphone port offer loads of possibilities. Don’t forget a game to play with. Brain Training is a good idea but I’m not sure what message that would send on Valentines Day!
Digital Pen
Keep those important notes, doodles and lists – search through them too. This is more than a novelty, switch to a digital pen and it could well change your life. It has 1GB flash memory and uses a USB enabled wireless receiver to communicate with the digital pen. It can be used on pretty much any type of paper.
Or try the Livescribe SmartPen – writing something down doesn’t need to be the end of the story.
The One Zerone Binary Watch
What time is it? Oh hang on 8+1 = 9 and 32+8+2+1 = 43 so it must be 9:43 – or is that 9:44 now? There are only 10 sorts of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don’t.
Flashing Heart Cufflinks
See, he does have a heart after all. Two of them in fact.
Sony Reader Digital Book
We all love to read? Download the book (romantic novel, thriller, or cyberpunk) of your choice then sit back, relax and join the adventure. It has a 6” display and utilises E-Ink that requires no backlighting. It can hold around 160 books in its memory and can turn 7,500 pages on a single charge.
Sony “Bluetooth Ready” Enabled 9” Digital Photo Frame
Memories are there to be cherished, not locked away in dusty old photo albums. Put all your favourite pictures of your Valentine on show. This is a 9” LCD screen and contains built-in face detection to automatically adjust the exposure and tone of faces. It has a multi-card slot, HDMI output, and can receive images by Bluetooth using an optional adaptor.
Nabaztag/tag – The Second First Wireless Rabbit
No – not that kind of rabbit! A talking wireless rabbit – really. Set this little critter up and he can read your favourite news feeds and e-mail to you (Thanks to Sharon of Bay Web Designs for this suggestion). You could even opt for the heart patterned ear covers.
Logitech Harmony Universal
Remote Control
Control all your favourite tech gadgets from the comfort of your own sofa, bed, or what ever other place you have in mind. This describes itself as an intuitive, simple single-button control. It also has a funky backlit keypad so you can use it in the dark – no more accidentally missing the end of a program because you changed channels instead of volume.
ecoButton
Handy little button to help you save power. Its green, its eco – save the planet man! What more needs to be said. They say a domestic computer can save over £50 per year by using this button.
Heart Shaped Heat In A Click
Hands too cold from throwing snowballs? Find the energy to click this and you will warm up in no time at all. It says the temperature can soar up to 54C but don’t panic as it won’t scold your loved ones skin. It can be re-used again and again and comes in different colours.
Philips Imageo LED Rechargeable Candle Lights
I bought some of these for my partner over Christmas and she loves them. Once charged, give them a flick to switch ‘em on and flick ‘em again to switch ‘em off. They can last up two 20 hours once fully charged. The kids love ‘em too. Especially useful at night and in dark places.
HoMedics Therapist Back Massage Cushion
You’ll be thanked for ever once this Shiatsu back massager kicks in. It says it has “deep kneading action” to melt away tension and fatigue, and it can be used on an ordinary chair. I might even be tempted to get one for myself ( but I would never do that on Valentines Day
)
That’s the lot – but you don’t have long – Valentines Day is just around the corner – and you have ordered flowers too haven’t you?
