Dealing with AcroRd32.EXE – Unable to Locate DLL
This morning, users on one of our servers were receiving an error whilst trying to start Adobe Acrobat Reader version 8:
AcroRd32.exe – Unable to Locate DLL
The dynamic link library MSVCP80.dll could not be found in the specified path
The first thing we tried (as the users needed access to it quickly) was to simply uninstall Acrobat 8 then download and install version 9 however un-installation failed complaining that:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package ‘AcroRead.msi’ in the box below.
Performing a search on the missing DLL files matching ones turned up in another folder (MSVCP80.DLL and MSVCR80.DLL), copying them across to the expected folder allowed Acrobat Reader to jump in to life. We still have the AcroRead.msi problem to contend with but at least users can use Acrobat Reader in the mean time. I will post a further update once I figure out what is going on.
