Free Online: Audacity
Sunday, 26 October 2008
Transferring cassettes, live audio and other recordings such as record to computer is not the easy task it should be but fortunately there are tools around to help – Audacity being one of the most popular.
Audacity is an open source project that describes itself as "…free, open source software for recording and editing sounds" and there are versions for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
Audacity supports the editing of a number of sound files including Ogg Vorbis, MP3, WAV and AIFF, it also supports multi-track editing and offers extensions to its functionality through the use of plug-ins.
Audacity can be found at audacity.sourceforge.net/ and you might also want to check out the plug in that allows saving directly to MP3 format http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3
