Domain transfers from 1and1.co.uk

Whilst consolidating our hosting platforms it took a while to figure out how to transfer a domain away from 1and1.co.uk. I have no particular problem with 1and1, their current hosting is fine, but the large majority of our hosting is managed by another provider so, for us, it makes sense to consolidate.

Typically, to transfer a .co.uk you need the current provider to change the IPS Tag and for .com you may need an Authorisation Code, none of these could be found in the Domain Administration section of the 1and1 web site.

Tracking down the necessary location to initiate the transfer took some time but I finally tracked a link down thanks to a post on The Poor House which I have summarised here in case it may help. Domain transfers should never be taken lightly so if you have particular problems with your hosting vendor try and talk to them about it first – you may be able to resolve any issues without transferring out.

Have your account details handy and head on over to https://contract.oneandone.co.uk/. Once logged in there is a side panel where you need to click on Change Contract – you can then select the domain and after you select Cancel Contract you will be given an AuthCode or an opportunity to enter a new IPS Tag, as appropriate. There follows a bit of paperwork to sort out and some email verification for security.

  • I don’t have any beef with 1and1′s web hosting. However, I curse the day I ever listed any domains with them. Investigative journalist, Kelli Jack states: “1and1 should be shut down.” The Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau has them listed as “Unsatisfactory” Check out Red Flag for some customer comments
