Server Room: Assembling the Rack Components part 2

Following on from yesterdays progress "Server Room: Assembling the Rack Components" the light kit option is now installed in the rear of the rack. The installation was pretty painless, once I got hold of a big enough screwdriver.

Having never installed a HP rack with its components before it would have been useful to see some cabling layout ideas within the documentation to ensure cables are routed optimally, however I guess there are many different configurations possible which would make this difficult.

The Light Kit has an additional power extension socket that could be used for connecting either an additional light or other component equipment (to minimise cable runs) such as a the roof mounted Fan Kit installed yesterday.

The HP Cable Management Tray option kit is a little tougher, it was tricky attaching the two wire trays to the cable management tray and I am having great difficulty getting the two screws out of the rack top – I definitely need a stronger T30 Torx screw driver as the one I have feels a little lightweight for the job.

The Locking Drawer was easy enough, stick the template on the cabinet, pop the four cage nuts into position then put the screws in. This is the only item thus far that has required a Phillips screwdriver, the others either needed a Flat Blade screwdriver or a Torx. At least now there is somewhere to put all the bits and bobs until they are ready for assembly.

The only items left are the Utility Shelf, the Rack Grounding kit and the Airflow Optimisation kit so my thoughts are already turning to the UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and the PDU (Power Distribution Unit) that are required. We currently have an APC SUA5000RMI5U which is a 5kVA 5U rack mount unit but our current PDU is tied up and only has 8 ports so perhaps the 16 port AP7922 may be better suited to the job.
