A user was experiencing trouble trying to install the software application and drivers accompanying their new multifunction device. The operating system installed upon the user computer is Vista Home Premium.
The installation was complaining that the user did not have administrative rights to install the application even though the user was using the only account on the system – which was an Administrative account.
The problem being reported was a Run as requirement failure with the message
“This software cannot be installed using the ‘Run as…’ command. The installation cannot continue until this is resolved.’
The only recommendation (Required Action) given by the installer was to:
“Click Cancel to exit this software application. Log off and then log on as a user with administrative privileges…”
Upon visiting the user site I discovered that the CD being used for installation was an installation disc designed for use with the XP version of Windows – which was not compatible with Vista. After downloading the appropriate Vista drivers direct from the support site the installation proceeded correctly.
