Goodbye Mobile, Hello Mobile

k800i from jasonslater.co.ukIt’s that time of the year when I need to talk to the pac-man and I don’t mean that small yellow ball that loves eating dots. The contract on my phone, a Sony Ericsson K800i, is up for renewal so it’s time to test the water as things have moved on a bit since I last had to make the choice. In all honestly I have been happy with my SE as I was the one before that – I pretty much only use the 3.2MP Camera and occassionally make calls on it (I do get a lot of texts though) so it does everything I have wanted but it would be useful to get some larger screen area so I could browse the web and check on my rss feeds (perhaps make a blog posting or two).

I previously looked at the Sony Ericsson p1i and the Nokia e61i and I still have a Blackberry 8820 that I am still deciding what to do with (as it is locked to the Orange network) – you can read about it in What to do with my new Blackberry 8820. Several readers have suggested I give it away in a prize draw competition – what are your thoughts? Come to think of it I have a few bits of equipment lying around here that are pretty much as new and surplus to requirements including a USB missile launcher, a book on Photoshop, a cube t-shirt and a USB memory stick.

The latest phone that I am interested in though is the Nokia N95 8GB – and I know there is the N96 due out in the summer but I’ll be quite a few months into a contract by then. Three have an interesting bundle deal with the N95 8GB at the moment but having never used Three before I am unsure of their call to call cost structure. I plan to make a decision over the next week and I’ll be sure to write about my shiny new phone when it arrives.
