Getting the ACU to work again

March 26th, 2008 · No Comments

Following the installation of Service Pack 2 and various other updates on a Windows Storage Server using an HP Service Release CD I found the HP Array Configuration Utility no longer functioned - double-clicking on the icon simply did nothing. The CLI version seemed to work fine but the GUI version just didn’t want to know. Of course I discovered this only after a drive died on the external SCSI MSA and I was trying to check the status of the array after swapping out the failing drive.

Having obtained the latest Service Release CD and ticking all the boxes for updates I rebooted the server but the problem remained.  I found a post on the HP forums: ACU in Windows 2003 dating back to 2005 which described a similar problem to mine.

The solution was to uninstall the ACU via Windows Add/Remove Programs then explore the CD to find the necessary CP007578 file. Once extracted and installed the ACU bounced back into life and fortunately did not require a reboot of the server.
