Concealed Multi Way Adaptor with Surge ProtectionTrailing cables are a pest especially when located under desks plugged into multi-way adaptors. Quite often plugs can work loose or the power switch on the adaptor can be accidentally switched off by a passing foot. I am often on the lookout for ideas of how to improve the tangle situation that cables make so I was pleased to happen upon the Belkin Concealed Surge Protector which incorporates 8 sockets.

Belkin describe the device as “…organizes your cables and keeps them out of view with a unique closing cover. Designed to safeguard your electronics, computers, and appliances, the Conceal Surge Protector can sit on the floor, out of the way, or out in the open. Your cords remain organized and secure in their sockets, and outlets stay out of reach of kids and pets.”. You could describe the Belkin device as basically a multi-way adaptor in a box. It consists of two sets of four sockets with each set being offset to cater for different size plugs (such as power adaptors). The device also comes with co-axial and phone/fax/modem sockets for auxiliary surge protection (though these are on the outside of the box). Once all the plugs are plugged in they can be routed into a cable channel and the lid closed giving a much tidier appearance and be less prone to knocks. A big red switch sits on the side – though it would have been useful for this to be under some kind of flap so it too can’t be accidentally knocked – but at least it is recessed into the casing.
