The purpose of repeating this post for a second time is to include an image using a different method.
I have noticed recently that a few posts on my Blog have disappeared. Initially I put this down to ‘just one of those things’ and making regular backups means that I can easily restore a missing post – recently this occurrence seems to be increasing. Obviously the first thing to happen to me was a deep breath then a period of panic followed by a period of curiosity then eventually I got round to doing some investigation.
The first port of call was to search the Internet which turned up a few posts reporting similar things but being put down to “one of those things”. I ruled out the site being hacked as the site is self-hosted and protected by a strong firewall so this leads me to think the problem is something internal to the Blogging platform, either Ubuntu, PHP, MySQL, or WordPress. Looking through the database in MySQL administrator I can see the posts have definitely gone. Searching for them brings up nothing then I hit upon it – it looks like when I add an image to a post that it sometimes overwrites a Blog entry.
I am planning a few more tests so I hope to get to the bottom of the problem soon.
