I was browsing the Dell site for a laptop and happened upon the new Vostro range. A low cost PC and laptop range designed for the SME (Small/Medium Enterprise). At less than 190 pounds for a laptop running Vista Home Premium it seemed like a great deal. Mind you - there is the 50 plus pound delivery charge then all the VAT. The basic model, all ready to order is just shy of 300 pounds which is still a good price but not the low price that got me looking in the first place. The desktop machine is a similar scenario showing a big lettered price of just under 180 but in the basket ready to buy it has shot up to over 270 pounds and I hadn’t even customised it yet. Dell do state that delivery can be free for purchases over 299. However at this price they are still worth a look if you are interested in Vista Home Premium and could help drive down the cost of other PC’s. PC Pro have a review of the Vostro 1500 on their website at Product Reviews: Dell Vostro 1500. In addition, Ed Burnette’s Dev Connection on ZDNet has an interesting article on the Vostro (from Dell USA) in his article: Dell delivers Vostro value. If you want more information you can Wiki it at Wiki: Dell Vostro

Thank you very much for taking an interest in Dell’s Vostro line, Jason. Experts like you are making a big difference in providing valuable insight, particularly for smaller businesses without IT departments.

Yes, I agree with the previous comment. Many thanks for the helpful overview of the Dell Nostro. It’s useful to get an objective review of a piece of technology and have links provided to other reviews too. Keep up the good work!
