Tip: Quickly rename a bunch of files in Windows Explorer

Some users were asking me how they could batch rename files for their photos – they wanted to get rid of that horrible DSC prefix and replace it with something like Holiday2007. The simplest way is to go into Windows Explorer and select the files you want to rename (You can select multiple files by holding down the Control key while you click with the mouse). Once selected release the mouse and click on the File menu, then Rename. Type in what you want the name to change to (and don’t forget the extension if you are showing it) then press Enter. The files will be renamed to whatever you typed in plus a sequential number in brackets, e.g. Holiday2007(1).jpg, Holiday(2).jpg.
