I have a new project for the next six to eight months. It is to do with mobile push applications using Bluetooth. The idea essentially is to push standard applications (media, images, games) to a diverse set of mobile phone clients when they are in communication range of a Bluetooth transmitter ideally taking into account location aware context.
At the back end would be a master application that stores a variety of data and that pushes information to the Bluetooth transmitter (using wireless) for later broadcast to clients (mobile phones)
Some application area examples may help illustrate the point.
a) Scenario 1: Museum
A particular museum area or artefact may have related materials that could be pushed to your mobile phone as you pass by. This content could be music, voice explanation, static images or a simple game related to the area or artefact.
b) Scenario 2: Social Networking
As people enter a function certain information can be collected from them (volunteered of course) so that when they are within a certain distance of another person with matching information (for example, hobbies, work experiences, interests ) the two could be connected and details exchange.
c) Scenario 3: Shopping Center
Walking around a shopping centre, as long as the client has ‘opted in’ then discount vouchers, incentives, music clips or games could be pushed to the mobile phone as the client passes by (or is within range) of shops that have opted in to the scheme.

How is it going with this project? I was looking into the same concept here for creating an ad server for our building.
Im still in the research phase of investigating how this works and the .pdf i found is from 2004.
Any help you could give me on the subject would be helpful.

Hi,
how is this going / how has it gone? I am trying to research doing something similar ourselves and would like to gather as much info as possible; do you have anything I could read / research in this area?

Justin, thanks for the note. The project went very well - I couldn’t believe I actually got an A for it. There is a lot going on in the world of Bluetooth Mobile Push Applications - the report is quite wordy but if you are interested in a copy let me know. Jas.
