Taking Wordpress for a spin
I’ve been working on my own 3 column template for my Wordpress Blog. The systematic deconstruction of my old Blog The IT Managers Journal and subsequent building on my new Blog (www.jasonslater.co.uk) I am finding surprisingly therapeutic. A number of things that I’d left or pencilled for sorting out at a future date are all going under the [[microscope]]. I have been looking through the available Widgets for Wordpress but there are so many that for a noob like me there are probably too many. It would be great to have a section of ‘recommended widgets for noobies’.

Jason, here is a list of my plugins after 18 months of WordPress:-
AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget - “Add this” icon on every post (Digg/delicious/reddit)
Akismet - Spam
cforms II - Contact Page
Customizable Post Listings - Not sure if I use this one anymore
Dagon Design Sitemap Generator - Sitemap
Google Sitemaps - Provides Google with an XML sitemap
LinkLove - Reward regular readers with nofollow removed, do a search on my blog for more information
MyAvatars - Icons against comments
Peters Custom Anti - Spam
SEO Title Tag - Removes my blog name from post titles
Show Top Commentators
Similar Posts - Very good, has help readers discover more posts on my blog
WP-Cache - Cache my blog regular pages (My WP template is little bloated)
Hope this helps
Jamie
Thanks Jamie, I was finding the list of potential plugins quite overwhelming!
