Virtually Serving Microsoft

September 7th, 2007 · No Comments

Following an article in Techworld entitled Microsoft takes on virtual servers by Elizabeth Montalbano it seems that Microsoft has modified the licensing of some of its server management products to take into account virtualisation technology and try and detangle some of the complications of licensing.

System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2007 (a bit of a mouthful) is also available to download and try from Microsofts website. This apparently is to offer a unified (its that word again!) management platform for all Virtual Machines in operation across the organisation - nice if it does what it says on the tin especially if you can easily move images across machines and back them up quickly.

There are clearly a number of exciting developments down the Virtualisation path and I for one can’t wait to get them onsite, loaded and under investigation. Bring it on.
