I am now a qualified PAT Tester
On Friday I became a qualified PAT Tester after successfully completing training and exams 2377-11 and 2377-12 of the Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment from the City and Guilds Institute, more details here.
It was more difficult than I had anticipated. The visual inspection part was easy enough but once we got into determining class of device (There are about 5 five classes - though only 3 common ones) it started to get trickier. A basic understanding of electric’s is handy especially Ohms Law which I managed to muddle through and being the only non-electrician on the course I did get ribbed a bit. Mind you one of those qualified electricians with ‘24 years experience’ failed one of the exam so I guess it is also useful to remain objective.
I’ve written before about PAT testing (PAT Testing Again) and the fact that it is indeed one of my pet hates (PAT Testing), but having a grounding in the actual rules and requirements for it fills me with a little more confidence next time I need to challenge a tester.
Hi Jason
I know it’s more than a year ago you wrote your bloggs relating to PAT testers, and was sorry to read about the “practices” you’d been exposed to with fast buck operators.
I’d like to invite you to visit our website to see how I’ve set my business up, and show you how we, as well as our clients have a duty of care in getting the job done right.
My previous career background has been in avionic maintainence together with the implimentaion of Quality Control sytems. I therefore appreciate the need to have a strong work ethic.
Best Regards
Rob
