Fitting it in: Access Control and Time and Attendance
This week has finally seen the installation of the equipment and software for the new Access Control System and Time and Attendance System project. This is a huge upgrade from the previous Time and Attendance system which relied on plastic white cards with magstripes on them and no form of access control. Now, we have fobs that only need to be presented to a terminal to clock in or to gain access to a particular door.
Although we are still some time from going live, indeed we are just putting together our pilot run, I am thrilled to finally see the installation completed which is a major milestone in this project for me and as I’ve been fighting off tonsilitis all week it feels particularly pleasing to have made it through. I remember writing a Blog entry about the project in its early days back in May 2007 where I was planning site visits to see the particular solution in operation.
It’s taken some time and a huge amount of rallying to get the project moving and the costs approved - as this subject seems always to be a sore point with some users and can often be open to all sorts of negativity - lets face it nobody really likes clocking in and out or being restricted to where they can go but in a company like ours especially where food is packed then we have maintain a decent level of security. There is still the pilot project to run and final configuration of the time and attendance system and access control system but we have a number of weeks ahead of us yet, but this one project I look forward to placing a big tick against.
