MOSS on Exchange Server 2007

Submitted by jasonslater on Wednesday, 1 August 20075 Comments

The installation of the 64bit version of MOSS onto the same server as Exchange Server 2007 went quite smoothly. The installation completed quickly and the configuration wizard ploughed through the ten steps with no complaints.

Firing up the Central Administration Server again was a simple process and configuration began. This is where the problems started.

Configuring incoming mail was the first tricky problem. MOSS insits on telling me to install the SMTP component but as Exchange 2007 is already on the machine I’m a bit loathe to comply.

Configuration of a new site went very smoothly until I actually tried firing it up in Internet Explorer whereupon I was met with:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
  • You are not connected to the Internet.
  • The website is encountering problems.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.

This is unusual because the default Sharepoint site seems to work fine. I ran the iisreset /noforce option but that made little difference.  As an experiment I deleted the Web Application and recreated a new one but that didn’t work either.

I resorted to searching t’internet for clues and just as I was about to run an install I found the created site jumped into life. The moral of the story I guess is have a little patience.

Did you ever get a workaround for the incoming mail feature?

    I’m stuck there.

    Hello Jason,

I got Project Server 2007 started on the same server where’s Exchange 2007, but I cannot get the incoming e-mail to work.

Server has 2 IPs, 1 for OWA and 1 for Sharepoint/PWA/Central admin.

When I add incoming e-mail functionality to a list or Discussion, Project creates a Contact to my Active Directory, where external e-mail address is the same address. No physical mailbox is being made. Where is Project holding e-mails?

I can’t install SMTP service to the server because there’s already Exchange’s SMTP…

Do You have a workaround for this?

With best regards and waiting for Your answer,
    Martin

    Martin,

The same link as I gave for shauns problem may offer some pointers.

    Hey

The problem is, that if I install SMTP service to the same computer as Exchange, then Microsoft Exchange Transport service failes to start :(
In Exchange, I listen one IP port 25 and in IIS SMTP I listen second IP and port 25.

    Bregs,
    Martin
