"You’ve received a postcard from a family member!" - BEWARE

Submitted by jasonslater on Friday, 29 June 20074 Comments

Our Mail Filter has been stopping a large number of emails with the subject heading “You’ve received a postcard from a family member!”" however, as reported by The Register, link here the email is in fact a Trojan which attempts to compromise computers using a number of different methods.

Remember, always treat emails from unknown senders with caution!

I have another post here about how to remove it.

Ok, I’m an idiot. I clicked it. Now I blue screen every 10 minutes. Is there a process I can go through to fix my laptop?

There are some further details about the actual infection here and here.

If you can get an Internet connection for any time at all its worth running your system through Trend Housecall

    or Secunia

You can also get hold of AVG from GriSoft or Microsoft Windows Defender which may help.

I have had a large number of this and variations recently, i.e. “Youve recieved and ecard from a School mate, from a family member, from a collegue, etc. One accidentally slipped through and indeed had a virus attached. Happily my anti-virus software caught it before any damage was done.
