Day 31 Low-Carb
Day 31 low-carbing and I finally feel back on track. Sharon and the kids are feeling better; the kids have certainly got their appetites back - and the forecast for the weekend looks optimistic. I still have Saturday to get through ready for my weigh in on Sunday morning when all will be revealed - will I sink or swim?
We were talking about low-carbing in the office yesterday and people still think when they here ‘low-carb’ or ‘atkins’ that you mean you are on that ‘meat only’ diet followed generally by comments of ‘it’s bad for you isn’t it?’. This amazes me as I actually eat far healthier food on the low-carb diet as when I’m not dieting at all.
If I weren’t low-carbing then I would probably start the day with toast or cereal and coffee followed by chocolate from the vending machine around 10. Lunch would probably be chips, a pasty or a pre-packed sandwich and crisps (or combinations of such items). Afternoon chocolate or biscuits would ensue followed by teatime picking at whatever was around prior to the evening ‘microwave’ or ‘ping’ meal - prepared and prepacked and pudding would be the same. This usually followed by a bowl of cereal before bed - all washed down with pop, beer, or wine.
Now, take low-carbing. Breakfast usually an egg, scrambled, poached or boiled. Sometimes ham and cheese and sometimes blueberries and strawberries. This is all washed down with a nice glass of water or a cup of tea. Snacking doesn’t occur much anymore but sometimes might be a peperami, strip cheese, a few nuts or blueberries. Lunch is likely to be a healthy salad, kebabs, ok sometimes a traditional breakfast, tuna and mayonnaise or quiche. Teatime is now time spent together in the kitchen either chopping peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and the like or preparing a salad or broccoli and/or cauliflower with cheese. For dessert it’s usually sugar free angel delight, jelly, strawberries/blackberries/blueberries or combinations of such. Occassionally we might have some sugar free chocolate or a glass of white wine or low-carb beer such as michelob ultra.
The previous post (day 29) on my low-carb adventure is here.
