Everywhere I turn these days something else is Unified. Unified Threat Management, Unified Messaging, Unified Modelling Language, Unified Network Management, Unified Memory Architecture, and so on.
What I’m curious about is: If everything is unified why are there still so many different ways of doing things?
I would love a Unified Messaging System but I have to use Exchange 2000, Exchange 2007, Outlook, Outlook OWA, Googlemail, AOL Mail, Yahoo Mail, GFI Mailarchiver, GFI Faxmaker, 3Com NBX VoIP System, SKYPE, AOL IM, AS2, EDI, POP3, SMTP just to keep in touch with people. Where is the unification in that?
