Domain Controller Decommission

Submitted by jasonslater on Monday, 9 April 2007No Comment

The old AD has now been demoted fully to a member server. WINS Server, DHCP Server and DNS have been removed together with an array of other unnecessary services.

All that is running on the machine now, except Windows 2000 Advanced Server of course, is Exchange 2000, GFI MailArchiver, and GFI Faxmaker (which we use for SMS sending/receiving).

As soon as the backup is finished of the Exchange data I plan to reboot the server to ensure all is well. Oh, I also need to add the /3gb switch to the end of the boot sequence. I’ve tried this before and the machine has complained about it (the machine has 4gb) so I have the boot CD ready just in case.
