bye bye Vista - or rather Adieu
I’ve given up with Vista on my laptop for now. The upgrade advisor told me everything would be ok yet I still get a corrupted display and then the machine freezes. I’ve tried re-installing Vista clean but the same happens. I am having to reinstall XP from the system recovery disk that came with the laptop so I have an afternoon of updates planned – what fun. Searching Google hasn’t brought any nuggets of wisdom so there isn’t really any choice – its forward one step then back two I’m afraid.
Onward with the implementation of Microsoft Exchange 2007. Over the weekend I came to the reasoning that I had no choice but to upgrade the old backup DC to Windows 2003. This is the DC that is also running Exchange 2000. To mitigate any DC problems I am going to implement a virtual backup DC on our new Virtual Server then remove AD from the original backup DC. This should leave only Microsoft Exchange 2000 and GFI Mailarchiver on that machine. Hopefully the upgrade to Exchange 2003 will be relatively painless – it all seems a bit much but it should do the job.
Whilst on the subject of Virtual Server it’s about time I downloaded the beta (now RC1) or SCE (System Center Essentials) that I’ve had in my inbox for some time now. This is supposed to be essentially (gettit!?) a combination of MOM Express and WSUS with a bit of SMS thrown in for good measure. It supports up to 15 servers which is just about as many as we have here in operation so we’ll see how it goes.

[...] bye bye Vista - or rather Adieu I was having a few problems installing Vista on my work laptop and it ended in tears. A year later and I am still running XP - Vista is still tucked away in the draw. Mind you, I have been thinking about digging it out and giving it another go. [...]
