IT equipment on the shop floor

Submitted by jasonslater on Thursday, 27 July 2006One Comment

I have had to replace the laser printer yet again on the shop floor. The state in which the printer gets into after only a few months is surprising. Bits are broken off it, sensors no longer work and are taped down. The printer itself is filthy and clogged up with toner and not to even mention the cables which are coated in some strange but incredibly grubby substance.

The new printer is a HP Laserjet 4250 and the Production Manager has assured me it will at least get a weekly wipedown to keep it clean, especially the air vents. These printers aren’t cheap and when they’re lasting only a matter of months then costs add up pretty quickly. What I really need to find is an industrial grade laser printer.

I use to work EPoS printers, what nightmare they are. The worst where in the make-up area, you’d find all sorts lost inside.
